(CGUHS) The Gila River Indian Community’s Tribal Education Department (TED) honored students at the Chief Antonio Azul Scholar and Citizenship Awards on Friday, May 19, at the Gila River Resorts & Casinos–Wild Horse Pass. The Chief Antonio Azul Scholar Award recognizes Gila River Indian Community (GRIC) students who demonstrate consistent performance and the desire and ability to achieve their goals, while the Chief Antonio Azul Citizenship Award is presented to GRIC high school students who consistently demonstrate a positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and serve as a role model to others. Each level had three awardees composed of one winner and two honorable mentions. Alayna Mark won the Grade 11-Chief Antonio Azul Scholar Award. Receiving a Grade 12-Chief Antonio Azul Citizenship Award were Gracie Mark, Alianya Pablo, and Jacob Ochoa. [Pictured] Mr. Geoffrey Masa, Mathematics Teacher, and Mrs. Norma Machelor, World Languages Teacher, provided the recommendation letters to the committee to certify Alayna Mark's outstanding performance in their classes.
