(CGUHS) On Tuesday February 4, twenty-two Casa Grande FFA members participated in the South Central Career Development Event (CDE) day at Central Arizona College (CAC). More than 100 students, representing 12 high schools throughout the FFA South Central District, attended the mid-winter event. CDEs help students develop abilities to think critically, communicate clearly, and perform effectively in a competitive job market. Some competitions allow students to compete individually while others allow them to compete as a team. At the CAC event, students competed in contests including; FFA Creed, FFA Information, Agricultural Sales, Food Science, and Wildlife.
Our students did an incredible job displaying their knowledge and skills during their highly competitive competitions:
Deztyni Carrillo and Naomi Porter competed in the Employability Skills/Job Interview Career Development Event. Both members showed incredible skills during their rigorous interviewing process. Deztyni took home 3rd Place individual.
Our Horse Evaluation team consisted of Lexi Pinon, McKinleigh Carrier, Isabella Fenton, and Peyton Albert. For some of these members, it was only their first or second time competing in a CDE. We are incredibly proud of this team for stepping outside their comfort zone to learn something new.
Our Agricultural Sales team of Tommy Tarango, Thomas Hartman, Summer Partain, and Gunner Manterola hit it out of the park. Thomas Hartman received a well deserved 3rd Place Individual and the team, as a whole, took home 1st Place.
We had two teams compete in the Meat Evaluation competition. Our A Team included Robert Salas, Dylan Wajda, Brent Crockett, and Ian Wilkie. B Team included Lily Lara, Layla Egan, Brinklee Berry, and Nixie Lopez. Both teams did incredible. Ian Wilkie took home 1st Place Individual, A Team took 2nd Place, and B Team took 3rd Place.
Last, but definitely not least, our Dairy Evaluation Team hit a home run. The team consisted of Kaylee Larkin, Rannyn Shuman, Lacey Benge, and Lyla Shaw. Rannyn took 3rd Place Individual, Lyla 2nd Place Individual, and Lacey 1st Place Individual. As a team, they took home 1st Place.
Congratulations to these students on a job well done. We wish them the best of luck as they prepare to compete at state!
